Traditional Scholarships
Butler Rural Electric Cooperative's scholarships encourage the youth in our community to further their education. The scholarship application deadline is Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 5 p.m.
2022 Scholarship Amounts
Michael L. Sims Scholarship
$2,500 each year throughout college career for up to four years
Recipient will compete for up to $3,900 in additional scholarships from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives
Thomas Humbach Scholarship
$2,500
R. Fred Woodruff Scholarship
$2,500
Six $1,000 scholarships
Read the scholarship rules before applying. To qualify, you must:
- Be the child or legal ward of a Butler Rural Electric Cooperative residential member living in a residence receiving electricity from Butler Rural Electric Cooperative. Grandchildren and other relatives of cooperative members are not eligible to apply unless the applicant is the legal ward of the member.
- Be a graduating high school senior. College students and students who are beginning their college career but are not high school seniors are not eligible.
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standing on a nontraditional scale.

Trade School or Technical College Scholarship
Butler Rural Electric Cooperative awards the Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship to one student attending a technical college or trade school after high school.
Read the Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship rules before applying for the scholarship. To qualify, you must:
- Be the child or legal ward of a Butler Rural Electric Cooperative residential member living in a residence receiving electricity from Butler Rural Electric Cooperative. Grandchildren and other relatives of cooperative members are not eligible unless the applicant is the legal ward of the member.
- Be a graduating high school senior. College students and students who are beginning their college career but are not high school seniors are not eligible.
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standing on a nontraditional scale.
- Be attending an accredited technical college or trade school after high school. A proper vocational or technical school is a post-secondary institution where credits can be transferred to a state-accredited four-year college. Past recipients of this scholarship have majored in natural resources law enforcement and diesel mechanics, for example.
