Searching for board members like you!

Butler Rural Electric Cooperative is owned by our members and is governed by a nine-person board of trustees. Board members are members like you — they receive electricity from the co-op and live in your community. Board members are nominated by district and are elected at large. The board of trustees make decisions that affect the entire membership and represent the interests of all members.

Board elections are held in three of our nine districts each year. Members elect trustees to serve three-year terms and vote each spring online, by mail, or through SmartHub.

Board seats up for election in 2025
Three board seats are up for election in 2025 – District 3
(Somers Township), District 4 (German and Gratis townships), and District 9 (Colerain, Crosby, Fairfield, and Ross townships).

Thomas L. McQuiston currently holds the seat for District 3, Jay T. Hasbrook holds the seat for District 4, and James O’Brien holds the seat for District 9. These board members can run for re-election if they choose.

Who can become a board member?
Members living in districts 3, 4, and 9 can run for, and be elected to serve on, the board of trustees. To be a candidate for the board of trustees, your account with Butler Rural Electric Cooperative must be in your name. This means your name must appear on your bill from the cooperative.

Board members responsibilities
Board members meet with the co-op’s attorney, general manager, and management staff each month and work together to make important decisions that impact our day-to-day operations.

Board members spend about 25 hours each month attending meetings and conferences. This includes attending board meetings on the last Wednesday of each month at Butler Rural Electric Cooperative’s office in Oxford. The meetings begin at 9 a.m. and typically conclude by 1 p.m. To stay up-to-date on current and developing industry information, they also attend conferences in Columbus and national meetings with varying locations.
