We have numerous scholarship opportunities for high school seniors. The scholarship application deadline is Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. 2024 applications will be released in November.
Traditional Scholarships
We award nine traditional scholarships to high school seniors attending a four-year college after graduation.
Michael L. Sims Scholarship
$2,500 each year throughout college career for up to four years
Recipient will compete for up to $4,100 in additional scholarships from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives

Read the scholarship rules before applying. To qualify, you must:
- Be the child or legal ward of a Butler Rural Electric Cooperative residential member living in a residence receiving electricity from Butler Rural Electric Cooperative. Grandchildren and other relatives of cooperative members are not eligible to apply unless the applicant is the legal ward of the member.
- Be a graduating high school senior. College students and students who are beginning their college career but are not high school seniors are not eligible.
- Have a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standing on a nontraditional scale.
Trade School or Technical College Scholarship
We award the Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship to one student attending a technical college or trade school after high school.

Read the Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship rules before applying for the scholarship. To qualify, you must:
- Be the child or legal ward of a Butler Rural Electric Cooperative residential member living in a residence receiving electricity from Butler Rural Electric Cooperative. Grandchildren and other relatives of cooperative members are not eligible unless the applicant is the legal ward of the member.
- Be a graduating high school senior. College students and students who are beginning their college career but are not high school seniors are not eligible.
- Have a grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standing on a nontraditional scale.
- Be attending an accredited technical college or trade school after high school. A proper vocational or technical school is a post-secondary institution where credits can be transferred to a state-accredited four-year college. Past recipients of this scholarship have majored in natural resources law enforcement and diesel mechanics, for example.
